Pasdec Automotive Technologies is proud to announce the awarding of a contract to supply Volkswagen SA’s Uitenhage plant with harnesses for the VW Polo. The contract applies to local and export units.

According to Kevin Pather, Pasdec’s CEO, the VW contract will result in significant investments in plant, machinery and human resources.

“In addition to investing in new machinery,” says Pather, “Pasdec will also be conducting extensive training programmes to ensure that we completely satisfy Volkswagen SA’s quality and technical specifications.”

Gielie Fourie, Pasdec’s general manager for strategic services, says that everybody at Pasdec is delighted that in successfully bidding for this contract the company has been able to demonstrate the value of its vast industry experience and technical strengths.

“The rigorous selection process,” said Fourie, “involved a potential supplier audit, a technical evaluation, a financial evaluation and a project presentation. Pasdec will be required to become an A rated supplier to VW prior to the shut-down this year, and we are already underway with a quality and engineering review of our systems.”

An important feature of the VW Polo project will be the creation of new jobs. Kevin Pather was quick to praise the partnership between Pasdec, MerSETA and the relevant trade unions, which will result in the employment of up to eight-seven people who will receive thorough training, thus equipping them for long-term careers in the automotive components industry.
